This week we celebrate the homecoming of Mrs. Betty Joyce Tarpley, age 78, who reached the end of a valiant battle with cancer and entered eternal life on February 9, 2019. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, the best grandmother in the world to her grandchildren, a homemaker, a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church, and a graduate of Neville High School. She enjoyed arts, crafts, and spending time with her family. She lived her life with a wonderful attitude and an unquenchable smile on her face. In her final days she looked forward in anticipation of meeting Jesus in heaven. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
She was married 51 years and is survived by her husband, Arthur “Sonny” Tarpley Jr.; her daughter and son-in-law, Amy Young and Gary; four grandchildren, Garrison Young, Sarah Word, Mason Word, and Willie Word; and many other friends and family members. She was a daughter of the late Walter and Anna Belle Johnson. Betty was also preceded in death by her siblings, Mike Johnson and June Hill.
A celebration of her life will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at Mulhearn Funeral Home Chapel in Monroe, LA with Rev. William Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday, February 11, at the funeral home.
