Memorial Services for Mrs. Betty Virginia Woodard Johnston, 80, of Monroe, LA, will be at 11:00 AM Friday, October 21, 2022, in the Mulhearn Funeral Home Chapel, Monroe, LA, with Rev. Don Woodard officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, LA. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00PM Thursday, October 20, 2022, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, LA.  

Mrs. Johnston was born August 19, 1942 and passed away on October 16, 2022 after a lengthy illness.  She is a retired banker from the former Ouachita National Bank and the current Morgan Chase located in Monroe.  In addition, she was the Vice President of Johnston’s Security Service, Inc. of Monroe, LA which was owned and operated by both her and her husband for many years servicing Ouachita Parish and surrounding communities.   She and her husband were devoted Christians and life-long members of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Monroe.  She was also a member of the Agape Life Group at First Baptist Church in West Monroe.

She enjoyed cross stitch, crochet, quilting, and spoiling her grandchildren.  While her birth name is Betty, it was clearly known and understood by most that her true name, as given by her grand-children, is Lehgoo.   

She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Ray Johnston; and her parents of Arcadia, LA, RC Woodard and Katy Josephine Caver Woodard.

Survivors include her daughter Cynthia Johnston Taylor and husband Roy Edward Taylor of Clinton, IL; her daughter Amy Johnston Gill of Monroe, LA; her grand-daughter Jessica Taylor Brown, husband Dustin Brown, and her great-grand daughter Josephine Rose Brown of West Monroe, LA; her sister Patricia Dale Woodard Woods and husband William Woods of Kaufman, TX; brother Glenn Woodard and wife Diane Woodard of Ruston, LA;  brother Don Woodard and wife Connie Woodard of Arcadia, LA; 18 nieces and nephews and multiple great nieces and great nephews.    

Pallbearers will be Dustin Brown, Dwayne Woodard, Charles Price, Darrell Richardson, Todd Woodard, and Gary Johnston.  Honorary Pallbearers are Richard Ballard, Edward Clark, William Woods, Glenn Woodard, and Michael Johnston.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Francis Hospital on the 5th floor Cardiac / COVID Wing and the 2nd Floor MICU for their love and support during her visits. Their outstanding compassion, expert experience, and amazing skills were very much appreciated by her and the immediate family.

Due to the love and affection, she had for birds and other wildlife, the family requests her friends and family to please consider planting a tree as a memorial in her honor.
