Bessie W. Nielsen

Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie W. Nielsen, 100, of Monroe, will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 2, 2019, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. William Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Nielsen was born May 17, 1918, in Winnsboro, LA, and passed away Sunday January 27, 2019. She was a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church. After high school, Mrs. Nielsen was a bookkeeper for Johns Trading Company and Ritchie Grocery. She was then office manager for St. Joseph Nursing Home until her retirement. While her children were in school, Mrs. Nielsen was president of the PTA. She was a very active member of the Passman Resident Organization at Passman Plaza Retirement Community.

Mrs. Nielsen was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Clarissa Wiggins; husband, Louie Remy “Doodle” Nielsen; nine siblings, Roddie Wiggins, Louis Wiggins, Luella Parks Greer, Jessie Wiggins, Della Tillman, Lessie Turner Oehlke, Lucille Powell, Frank Wiggins Jr., and Nobie Parks.

Survivors include two daughters, Frances Williams and husband Lloyd and Debbie Dunham and husband Mike; four grandchildren, Mike Williams and wife Linda of Dallas, TX, Lindi Free and husband Neal of League City, TX, Dana Dunham of Atlanta, GA, and Ashley Coalmer and husband Kurt of Franklin, TN; seven great-grandchildren, Brook Thompson and husband Brent of Bee Cave, TX, Morgan LaGrappe and husband Patrick of Georgetown, TX, Whitney Williams of Bee Cave, TX, Jamie Free of League City, TX, Kylie Rasbury and husband Wes of McKinney, TX, Charlotte Grace and Ava Monroe Coalmer of Franklin, TN; three great-great-grandchildren, Mikayla Thompson, Westyn Thompson, and Charleigh Thompson; special niece, Pearl Billingsley and husband Murray; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Wes Rasbury, Brent Thompson, Patrick LaGrappe, and Vic Young.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Ouachita Healthcare, Hospice Compassus, and 7th Floor Specialty Care at St. Francis Medical Center.
