Bertie Moore Barron, age 101, Columbia, Louisiana, passed away November 20, 2012.  Mrs. Barron was born March 28, 1911 in Jackson Parish, Louisiana. After marriage in 1931, she resided in Ouachita Parish for about ten years before moving to Caldwell Parish where she spent the remainder of her life.

Mrs. Barron owned and operated a grocery store in Caldwell Parish until she retired.  She was a member of Palestine Baptist Church. Bertie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and was an excellent cook who spent many hours preparing delicious meals and often told stories of her childhood days.  Mrs. Barron enjoyed tending to her gardens, which she shared with her family and friends.  She showed her love by lending a helping hand to those in need.  Bertie was courageous, kind, and strong; her compassion was endless.  Mama was always there for her children, giving comfort, understanding and protection, and she will live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew her.

Mrs. Barron is preceded in death by her parents, Carney Moore and Elsie Russell Moore; her husband, Allen Barron; an infant son; three sisters, Velma Harper, Verna Griffin, and Zula Head; one brother, Henry Moore; and two sons-in-law, Billy Ray Girod and Donald DeLancy, and grandson, Donnie DeLancy.

Survivors include her three daughters, Lois DeLancy and Evelyn Girod, both of Columbia, LA, and Louise Koprek and husband, John, of Washington state; 10 grandchildren, Gwen Blackwelder and husband, Robert,  granddaughter–in–law, Cindy DeLancy, Steve DeLancy, Stanley DeLancy, Jimmy Ray Girod and wife, Cindy, and Wendall Gilmore, all of Columbia, Rhonda Simmons and husband, Dr. Charles S. Simmons, of Ruston, Mark Koprek and wife, Cheri, Brian Koprek, Wendell Koprek and wife, Elo, all of Washington state; 14 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 23, 2012 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM at Palestine Baptist Church, Hwy 4 West, Columbia, LA, and from Noon until service time on Saturday, November 24, 2012.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Palestine Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Lutrick officiating.  Interment will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Okaloosa Community, near West Monroe, LA. 

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
