Basil Doles Jr

Graveside services for Mr. Basil Doles, Jr., 77, of Rayville, LA, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday February 7, 2021, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA with Rev. Mike Palermo officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Rayville, LA.
Mr. Doles was born May 26, 1943 in Ft. Gordon, GA and died February 3, 2021 at Baylor Scott and White Heart Hospital in Plano, TX after a brief illness.
Basil attended Rayville High School and graduated from Sewanee Military Academy, he attended L.S.U. and received his BS degree in Geology from Northeast Louisiana University. Basil was a past president of ULM Alumni Association. He was a former member of Monroe Rotary Club and Monroe Chamber of Commerce. He served SME Chairman for the Ouachita Valley Council Boy Scouts of America. Basil was employed for 21 years with Texas Industries, TXI, Concrete Company, first as a Geologist and then as General Manager of Concrete Products Operations. He then worked with Century Ready Mix in Monroe and Diamond B. Construction, before opening Midsouth Contractors Supply, which he operated for 18 years. Basil enjoyed the outdoors spending time hunting and fishing with his Dad and the George Franklin Family at the Handicap Hunting Club. He was also a member of Little Lake Lafourche Hunting Club for over 30 years. In addition to hunting, Basil enjoyed traveling and loved to get in on a good card game with the boys. He was famous for his saying, “What happens at the camp stays at the camp”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Basil, Sr., and Maxine Doles, and his first wife, Jennifer Frazier Doles.
Survivors: his wife of 14 years, Gail Pitman Doles; Step-Children, Clark Abrams (Melissa), Philip Lee (Mandy), Tonya Mashburn (Jimbo); and Step-grandchildren, Bryson Lee (Colicia), Lakin Lee, Gabriel Jordan, Peyton Kyle, Daniel Abrams, and Katie Champoux; Great Grandchildren, Briar Rice, Baylor Rice, Blade Overbey, Kensley Abrams, Veronica and Riley Champoux; Cousins, Mike Doles (Nancy), Don Doles (Barbara), Jimmy Doles (Denise), Debbie Boone (Ronald), Beverly Graham (Gary), Bonnie Doles, Rita Gay Wooten, and Gail Gibbs.
Pallbearers will be Fred Franklin, Larry Voorhees, Chuck Rugg, Gabriel Jordan, Philip Lee, Zach Laing, Kenny Hebert, and Don Doles. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bibb Franklin, Roy Franklin, Gary Hummel, Jose Sotelo, and Billy Crymes.
Memorials may be made to Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
