A memorial service for Barbara Brundrett Maley, 91, of Monroe, Louisiana, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 14, 2024 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Rita Jefferson and Rev. Dawnelle Stodghill officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Barbara was born the daughter of Isaac and Delta Brundrett on July 11, 1933 and went to join her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 9, 2024 with family by her side at Haven Nursing Center in Columbia, LA. She and Frank lived in Monroe from 1967 until they were moved to the Haven in 2022. She graduated from Little Rock Senior High School in 1950, where she was a member of Beta Delta sorority. While attending Little Rock Junior College, she met and fell in love with Frank who played football, and she was elected Homecoming Queen her sophomore year. After graduating from junior college, she attended Hendrix College in Conway, AR while Frank was on football scholarship at Southern State College in Magnolia, AR until they were married on November 28, 1953. When Frank began working for the Boy Scouts of America, she attended Memphis State University, and Centenary .College in Shreveport, LA. In 1969, she graduated from Northeast Louisiana University earning a degree, with honors, in Liberal Arts with a major in English and a minor in history. In 1972, she became secretary to the Athletic Director of NLU where she remained until her retirement in 1993. She and Frank were active and devoted members of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Isaac (I.N.) Newton and Delta Summers Brundrett; husband of 69 years, Frank Zdenko Maley; sister Jeanne Brundrett Baumgardner; and daughter, Martha Jeanne Maley McCabe. Survivors include children, Rick Maley and wife Cindy and Elizabeth Maley Douglas and husband Dowd; grandchildren, Andrew Strong and wife Emily, Matt Maley, Dana Maley and husband Justin Neal, Sandra Wood and husband James, Kyle McCabe and wife Kerri; great-grandchildren, Olivia Maley, Owen and Olivia Strong, Greyson and Lauren Wood, and Kollins and Kolt McCabe; nieces, Pam Dixon, Sherry Elser, and Suzanne Mullins; nephews, Scott Tabor and Paul Baumgardner. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America or St. Thomas Episcopal Church, or River Cities Humane Society for Cats.
The Maley family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Mother’s St. Thomas family for their unwavering love, support, and prayers they have given to Mother and our family over the years; you were truly her second family whom she loved dearly. Also, thank you to all the nurses and staff at Haven Nursing Center for their loving care of Mother during her stay; to Brother Jack, his family and congregation who often ministered to Mother through visits, prayers, and song - all of which brought her joy; to the many friends and family whose love, support, and prayers during these difficult years with both Mother and Daddy are so greatly appreciated.
