A Memorial Mass for Barbara Frances Barker Corry, of Monroe, LA will be held at Jesus the Good Shepherd Church on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at 10:00 AM, with Father Job Edathinatt officiating.
Ms. Corry was born in Monroe, on August 29, 1934 to James Robert Corry, Sr. and Loyce Frances Ross. Barbara died peacefully, with her family by her side, on Wednesday, November 8, 2017.
Ms. Corry attended Barkdull Faulk Elementary School and was a 1952 graduate of Neville High School. She was crowned Miss Louisiana in 1952 and went on to participate in the Miss America Pageant. For many years, she was active in the Miss Louisiana Organization. She was a faithful member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Church, where she was a lay reader. She was also a member of the Junior Charity League, Neville Alumni and Friends Association, and a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond Rew Baird, her sister Patricia “Pat” Barker Moore, brother, James Robert Corry, Jr. and sister-in-law, Jerirae Baird Edwards.
She is survived by her children: Cyndy Rivers Perry and husband, John; Michelle, “Chelle” Rivers; Stephanie Rivers Randolph and husband, Bob; Jay Rivers and wife, Stephanie; and Quincie Rivers. She was known as “Granbe” to her five grandchildren: Jamie Perry Joseph and husband, David; J W Perry and wife, Megan; Tyner Guillot; Brett Rivers and Blaine Rivers. She is also survived by her four great-grandchildren: Perry and Chaney Frances Joseph; Rivers and Vivian Perry, and by many nieces and nephews throughout the country, as well as a large number of extended family and friends.
Barbara had an immense love for animals and could never turn them away. Barbara’s house was the neighborhood cornerstone and the door was always open to her five children’s many friends. She made everyone feel loved and welcomed, and was quick to forgive….which she had to do quite often.
