Audrey Louise Brown Varner

June 8, 1926 — December 19, 2017

Graveside services for Audrey Louise Brown Varner, 91, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 22, 2017, at Riverview Cemetery, Monroe, LA, with Pastor Craig Ferguson officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Mrs. Varner was born June 8, 1926, in Wisner, LA, and passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017, in Downsville, LA. She was a member of First Christian Church.

Audrey grew up in the small town of Wisner, Louisiana in cotton country. She started early taking care of people when she began taking care of her 7 brothers and sisters only one of which was older, J.W.

In 1946 she had her first of two children, Dianne. Not long after she had Dianne, she met Leroy Brown and soon became his wife. He moved them to St. Louis, Missouri where he went to work for Missouri Pacific Railroad. They subsequently bought a home and sent for Dianne to start their lives. In 1962 she had Terry and started completely over with a newborn. Dianne married and in 1963 James Patrick Sayers was born which gave Audrey her first of two grandchildren. Michael Thomas Sayers came a couple of years later. In the early eighties, Leroy retired, and they moved back to Louisiana.

Audrey did many things in her long life. She worked at a department store, drove a school bus, worked in the school cafeteria, was a church secretary, Sunday school teacher, and she even was a cook for three Catholic priests. She made the best roast and gravy, and potato soup ever!

Audrey ended her career working for her niece, Judy Martin, at her store in Monroe. The entire time she worked, she was totally involved in every aspect of her Church and was a very Godly woman! She loved playing cards and dominoes with her family and friends. She loved her family and her Church family very much. If anyone ever needed anything she would give with her whole heart!

Audrey lived a long and wonderful life and was loved by everyone she came in contact with. Audrey will be missed by many but never forgotten.

Mrs. Varner was preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey and Birdie Smith; Leroy Brown; John Varner; brothers, JW Smith, Billy Smith, Blackie Smith; sisters, Odean Desidere and Margaret Kyle.

Survivors include her son, Terry Brown and wife Sissy; daughter, Dianne Blanchard; grandchildren, Michael Sayers, Jay Sayers; multiple great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
