Services for Mrs. Antoinette “Dollie” Ticheli Sweet, of Monroe, will be at 10 am, Wednesday January 2, 2013 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Puthappally presiding.
Dollie Sweet was born in Monroe, LA, Feb. 27, 1924 and died December 29, 2012 in Monroe, LA. She was the youngest of 9 siblings and graduated from Ouachita High School in 1942. She began her career with the Monroe city summer playground program, where she met her husband, Raymond. She then taught kindergarten and P. E. at St. Matthew’s school in 1946, retiring 45 years later from Jesus the Good Shepherd in 1991. She was always active in local athletics not only as a player, but also as a coach in basketball, football, and softball.
She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where she was on the St. Joseph’s Alter Committee until it closed, and was presently a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church, where she was on the Financial Committee.
In the last 10 years, she enjoyed making her famous spaghetti and meatballs, cookies and pies, and working in her pecan orchard. She loved nothing more than cooking for her family and friends. Since the passing of her husband, Raymond, in 2006 she has been active in the Singular Connection and Harvey’s Dance Hall.
Dollie had many friends from all walks of life, and our family would like to sincerely thank all of those who did for her and were a part of her life.
She is survived by her sons, Harvey Ray Sweet, and wife Sylvia, and Frank Anthony Sweet; six grandchildren, Andrea Sweet Weinbrecht and husband Gregory, Kevin Sweet, Alyce Sweet, Suzy Sweet Moore and husband Carl, Frannie Sweet, Kelly Sweet Lee and husband Chris; three great grandchildren Peyton Sweet Moore, Michaela McSwain, Zane Lee, and many nieces and nephews.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, Mona Rizzo Ticheli and Anthony Paul Ticheli; husband, Raymond Sweet; her 8 siblings, Mary Ticheli Dana, Rose Ticheli Russo, Angela Ticheli Sims, Josephine Ticheli Tuminello, Frank Paul Ticheli, Phillip P. Ticheli, Mona Ticheli Gardener, and Michael Ticheli.
Visitation will be Tuesday Jan 1, 2013 from 5-7pm at Mulhearn’s on 165. The funeral will be Wednesday 10am at St. Matthews Church. There will a gathering of friends and family at Harvey’s dance hall immediately following the burial services Wednesday. She will be taking your $5 donation at the door in spirit.
Pallbearers will be Frank Jungina, Jr., David Michael Jungina, Gregory Weinbrecht, Kevin Sweet, Timothy Gardener, Jerry Garlington, Larry and Charlie Williams.
Honorary pallbearers are Buster Landrum, Sherman Shaw, David Cater, and Erving Miller.
