Annie Lou (Henry) Clay passed away peacefully with her family on May 28, 2018. She was 85 years old. Mrs. Clay was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She brought smiles to everyone she met. She was generous with her love and her time and always found ways to connect with people.
She was born in Stockbridge, Georgia to her parents, Walter Raleigh Henry and Annie Lou (Flake) Henry on June 22, 1932. She graduated from high school in Henry County, Georgia. She went on to attend Emory University where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. There she met her future husband, Dr. Roy Gresham Clay, Jr. They enjoyed 62 years together, happily married. Mrs. Clay was a registered nurse by training but her true life’s work was caring for her family which included four children and six grandchildren.
She is survived by her devoted husband Dr. Roy Gresham Clay Jr., their sons Roy Gresham Clay III and his wife Sacha, Dr. John Eugene Clay and his wife Agnès, Robert Edward Clay and his wife Jan, and her grandchildren Dr. Megan (Clay) Marino and her husband Matthew, Tatiana (Clay) Jurzak and her husband Jason, Anne Safiya Kéféli Clay, Alexander Gresham Clay, Joy Neylufer Kéféli Clay, and her siblings Harold “Hal” Henry and his wife Ada Sue, Rachel (Henry) Hurst, and many well-loved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Timothy Louis Clay, her grandson Zachary Alexis Clay and her siblings Edna (Henry) Hasty, James Henry, Alice (Henry) Whitmire, Walter “Buddy” Henry, Dr. George Henry and Dr. Zachary Henry.
The pallbearers will be Dr. Euil “Marty” Luther, Dr. Lester Wayne Johnson, Marion Crawford Plummer, Dr. David Boyle, Matthew Marino, Alexander Gresham Clay, James R. Ron Plaisance and H. Ayron McGuire.
Family and friends will gather this weekend to celebrate her life.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, June 2nd from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Mulhearn Funeral Home at 300 McMillan Road in West Monroe.
The Funeral Service will take place on Sunday, June 3rd at 2:00 pm at New Chapel Hill Baptist Church at 61 New Chapel Hill Road in West Monroe with Rev. Marty Black officiating. Burial services will immediately follow at the New Chapel Hill Cemetery.
