Funeral services for Anna Lillian Hudson Griffin of Monroe, Louisiana will be held at 1pm on Nov. 11 at Bayou Oaks Baptist Church in Monroe with Pastor Danny McIlveene officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 noon until the time of service at the church.
Anna Lillian was born Oct. 19, 1928 in Monroe, Louisiana and passed away Nov. 4, 2022, at her home at the age of 94. She graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in 1945, LSU in 1948, and later earned a master’s degree from NLU. She married James Lester Griffin on Sept. 11, 1949, and they spent most of their lives living on Bon Air Drive in Monroe.
She was a dedicated geometry teacher at West Monroe High School for many years, and her skills in this subject led to her beloved avocation as a master quilter after she retired. As a creator of dozens of beautiful quilts, Anna Lillian was a charter member of the North Louisiana Quilters’ Guild, and was honored in 2004 as “Featured Quilter” of the annual quilt show. Her amazing quilts will live on as her legacy in the homes of family and friends. She was a long-time supporter of Friends of Black Bayou (one of her quilts is displayed in the visitor center), the Salvation Army, Northeast La. Food Bank, and Gideons International.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lester Griffin, her parents, Allen Jones Hudson and Doris Boothe Hudson, brother Allen Jones Hudson, Jr., and sister-in-law Doris Pierce Hudson. Anna Lillian is survived by her children, son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Griffin and Marilyn Bagwell Griffin of West Monroe, Louisiana; daughter and son-in-law, Amy Griffin Ouchley and Kelby Ouchley of Rocky Branch, Louisiana; daughter and son-in-law Joan Griffin O’Rourke and Rick O’Rourke of Miami, Florida; five grandsons, Jeremy Clay Ouchley with his wife Julie, James Zachary Ouchley with his wife Winnie, James Jacob Griffin with his wife Tamra, William Joseph Griffin, and John Hudson Griffin with his wife Nina. Her five treasured great grandsons include Hudson Christopher Ouchley, Tripp Jameson Griffin, Finn Wilder Griffin, Rhett Maxwell Griffin, and Jackson Gray Griffin.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Ouchley, Zach Ouchley, Rocky Cain, Randy Clark, John Griffin, and Joey Griffin.
The family would like to especially thank the caregivers at Always Best Care and the staff at La. Hospice and Palliative Care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of Black Bayou, Bayou Oaks Baptist Church, or to the charity of your choice.
