Ann Mims Shell, known affectionately as "Sweetheart" to her family and loved ones, was born July 20, 1929, in West Monroe, Louisiana, and passed away on August 10, 2018, at the age of 89. She attended Baton Rouge High School and LSU. Before marrying husband Garland Shell, she worked for several years as the secretary for Mr. James A. Noe at KNOE TV and Radio. After leaving KNOE, she enjoyed her life as a homemaker and mother to her two daughters and always offered a listening ear and a pearl of wisdom to their friends.
She was very active and involved at both First Presbyterian Church and Covenant Presbyterian Church and enjoyed her many years of volunteering at Christian Community Ministries. Besides her family and friends, the love of her life was gardening and her yard. She felt most at home while sitting on her patio looking out at the bayou. All who met her knew she epitomized the grace of a Southern belle and the strength of a steel magnolia.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dallas and Katie Mims; her husband, Garland Shell; her sisters, Rosalda Fowler and Evelyn Brennan. She is survived by her daughters: Adrienne Taylor and husband Brad, and Susan Brady and husband Pat; four grandchildren: Jason Brady and wife Beth, Michael Brady and wife Kristen, Kate Taylor, and Hayes Taylor and wife Michelle; five great-grandchildren: Mason, Will, Liam, Oliver, and Kane; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
The family is incredibly thankful to all of her doctors, nurses, and staff who cared for her during her illness, especially Leighnae Poole, Dr. Jeffrey Hilbun, and Dr. Husam Al Samarah. Additionally, the family wants to express their immense appreciation to the staff at St. Francis Home Health, especially Randi, Cody, Raul, Craig, Charlie, and Gina. Also, the family is extremely grateful to Hallie Branson, Johnny Traylor, and Brenda Labostrie for their love, care, and support. Ann's life was also immensely enriched by the love, support, and constant companionship of her niece Rosanne Kennedy and friend Doug Leporati.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Monroe. Visitation will be directly after the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church at 1901 Milton St., Monroe, LA 71201, or Christian Community Ministries at 322 Harrison St., Monroe, LA 71201.
