Funeral services for Ann McBeth Funderburk, of Monroe, LA will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 28, 2009 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe with Dr. Whit Holmes officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 PM at Centuries Memorial Cemetery, Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA.
Ann was born on March 6, 1929 in Dubberly, LA, and passed away on July 24, 2009 at the age of 80.
Ann graduated from Bastrop High School in 1946 and later graduated from Robinson Business College in Shreveport, LA. She worked as a Bookkeeper/Receptionist for Dr. Walter J. Ernst, Twin City Veterinary Hospital for 30 years while serving as an Administrative Assistant for the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association. She retired from the LVMA in the late 1990s. Ann was one of the first members of Parkview Baptist Church in Monroe and she was active in the community.
Ann was happiest when spending time with her friends and family. Her hobbies included keeping a beautiful yard with various blooming flowers including multi-colored roses. She also enjoyed walking daily and going on adventures with her best friend, Audrey Jo.
She is preceded in death by her parents A.P. Gamel and Rosie J. Gamel, as well as her 5 siblings: Inez Giddings, Francis Maxey, Juanita Edwards, Julius Gamel, and Floyd Gamel. Ann married William Walter McBeth in 1946. After his death in 1960, she married Joseph George Funderburk, who died in 2000.
Ann is survived by her only daughter, Deborah McBeth Ducote; her only granddaughter, Kimberly Ducote Kittrell and husband Justin; her late husband’s brother Max Funderburk, DDS and wife Pat; lifetime best friend Audrey Jo Speights; namesake Abby JoAnn Fordham; special cousins: Fran East of Johnstown, PA and Ruth Marie Price of Longview, TX; numerous nieces and nephews including Kris Edwards of Watertown, SD.
Pallbearers will be Benny Evans, Wendell Fordham, Ted Grace, Ted Hopkins, Frank Phoenix, and Michael Ryan. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Earl Speights, Bob Speights, Ricky Nicholson, and Dr. Joel Young.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the following: Hospice Compassus; the nursing staff on the Telemetry floor of St. Francis North Hospital; staff of The Terrace; Dr. Francis Weinholt; Dr. Charles Morgan; Dr. Thomas Gulick; Dr. Joiner and Dr. Frengell of St. Francis North Hospital. A special thanks is extended to Jennifer Sparks, nurse at St. Francis Downtown.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 27, 2009 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home on Sterlington Road in Monroe, LA.
