Ann Hargon, 86, of Monroe, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, October 26 after a long battle with dementia.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. in Talullah, La., at Memorial Park of Tallulah, with Rev. Jonathan Wagner officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd., Monroe, LA.
Ann was born in Jonesboro, La., on February 21st, 1937, to Sadie and James P. McClure, and she was raised in Tallulah. There, at Tallulah High School, she met Wallace Hargon, whom she would marry in 1955 and begin a long, full life together. Soon after they married, they moved throughout Mississippi where Wallace pursued his career as a football coach, and she devoted herself to her growing family. In 1964, they settled in a house in Monroe. There, she cared selflessly for her husband and children and later, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Two dozen small black notebooks found in a drawer in that house attest to the depth of her devotion: Every day for decades, she wrote a prayer for her husband and for each member of her family, for their anxieties and worries to be calmed, for their hearts to feel at peace, and for all their hopes to take shape and bring them happiness and safety. She entrusted their care and her own entirely to God, and her faith sustained her, strengthened her, and guided her.
After the birth of her fourth child, she began a career as an educator, teaching from the mid-70’s to the late 1990’s at Swartz Elementary School. Generations of children passed through her classroom into her care and guidance as she helped them grow into the people they would become. Some teachers teach math, some teach English; Ann taught children, and she taught them with love, unfailing hope for their future, and an abundance of patience, warmth, and care.
Ann is preceded in death by her husband Wallace Hargon, her beloved children Elizabeth and Michael Hargon, and her daughter-in-law, Susan Hargon.
Ann is survived by her children: Mark and Patrick Hargon; grandchildren: Chad Hargon and his wife Tara Hargon, Kristen Hargon Booth, Ashley Hargon, and Rook Hargon; great-grandchildren: Christian, Braylon, and Preston Booth, Liam Hargon, and Arwynn Bonnett; her sister and brother: Judy Rankin and Buddy and Faith McClure; and her two sisters-in-law: Florence Narron and Frances Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church.
