Amy Katherine Lewis

April 12, 1993 — July 27, 2020

Amy Katherine Lewis, 27, of Monroe, LA, was called to her eternal home with Jesus on Monday, July 27, 2020. She passed away at Glenwood Regional Medical Center after a battle with pneumonia.

Amy was born on April 12, 1993 in Covington, LA, and was the beloved daughter of Jay and Teri Lewis of Monroe, LA. She was the youngest of three siblings. After spending most of her childhood in the Covington area, she moved with her family to Madison, MS, and graduated from Madison Central High School in 2011. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2016 and was employed by Glenwood Regional Medical Center as a Medical Laboratory Scientist until her untimely death.

Amy loved animals of all kinds, and was the “mother” of Sadie, a mixed breed dog she adopted in 2014 from the Humane Society Adoption Center of Monroe. She particularly enjoyed watching cooking-related shows and webcasts and experimenting with the recipes presented on those shows. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and was baptized into Christ’s death and resurrection as a baby, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Covington, LA. Amy was a loyal friend and a loving family member, and was the godmother of her nephew, Tristan Paul Lewis. Sadly, Amy suffered from a number of maladies during her short life, including Hodgkin’s lymphoma, heart valve disease, and lupus. She bravely faced these challenges and soldiered on. From her birth, she was not one to be easily impressed by anything (including the delivery room!), and she was determined to overcome her physical challenges.

She is survived by her parents, Jay and Teri Lewis of Monroe, LA; her grandmother, JoAnn Lewis of Monroe, LA; her brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Aimee Lewis of Mandeville, LA; her sister, Amanda Lewis of Monroe, LA; her nephew, Tristan Lewis of Mandeville, LA; her coworkers at Glenwood; and her beloved dog Sadie, who is lost without her. Amy is predeceased by three grandparents, C.F. Cantrell, Jr. (1995), Martha J. Cantrell (2002) and Dr. John C. Lewis (2019).

Amy’s funeral will be held on Friday, July 31, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., preceded by a visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1301 Oliver Road, Monroe, LA. Her funeral will be officiated by Revs. William Cornelius and Karl Hollibaugh. For those unable to attend, her funeral will be live-streamed on YouTube on Trinity Lutheran Church – Monroe’s YouTube page. Her funeral will be followed by a brief interment service at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, LA. Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe, LA is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations on Amy’s behalf are suggested to any of the following organizations: Trinity Lutheran Church, 1301 Oliver Road, Monroe, LA 71201; Batson Children’s Hospital at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, directed towards the Cancer and/or Heart Clinics, 2500 North State St., Jackson, MS 39216; and/or the Humane Society Adoption Center, 920 Freight Drive, Monroe, LA 71201.

Amy’s mother and father wish to especially thank the wonderful people at Trinity Lutheran Church, the Medical Laboratory Science program at ULM, and her laboratory coworkers at Glenwood. You brought great joy to her young life.

“We were buried therefore with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with Him in a death like His, we shall certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His.” (Romans 6:4-5)
