Memorial services celebrating the life of Alvin L. Weidman, 85, of West Monroe, LA, will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 19, 2021, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA, with Rev. James Tarrance officiating. Private family burial will be held at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton, LA.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time on Tuesday.
Mr. Weidman was born November 20, 1935, to Walter and Lydia (Lohman) Weidman on the family farm at Sylvan Grove, Kansas and passed from this life on October 13, 2021.
Al was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and remained a faithful Lutheran all his life.
Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. He attended radio and radar school and after graduating was assigned to Salzburg, Austria and Verona, Italy with the 63rd signal battalion for 2 ½ years. In 1956, he received his honorable discharge. In 1963, he was united in marriage with Gretchen L. Schauf and one son Steve, was born to this union.
He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in management and accounting. Al was employed by K N Energy and Kinder Morgan, Inc. for over 34 years, retiring in 1994. He held leadership positions with the Lutheran Church and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors: his wife of 58 years, Gretchen S. Weidman; Son, Steve Weidman and his wife, Gail of Glendale, AZ; his siblings, Harold Weidman and his wife, Virginia of Salina, Kansas and Margarie and her husband, Don of Olathe, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
