Memorial services celebrating the life of Mrs. Alma Jean Young, 88, of West Monroe, LA will be Sunday, January 26, 2020, at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe with Pastor Ricky Baker officiating.
Jean passed away peacefully on January 20, 2020 at home with her loving family by her side.
Jean graduated from Junction City High School, where she was a proud member of the Junction City Dragons. Following graduation, she moved to Los Angeles and continued working for the telephone company she had worked for since the age of 13, while also attending modeling school. She married Richard "Dick" Young in 1952 and moved to West Monroe, where she became a homemaker and raised six children. Jean eventually returned to her love of design and worked as an interior decorator at JC Penney, retiring after 25 years of service.
Jean enjoyed reading, sewing, learning French, travelling, entertaining over good wine, and following the latest fashion trends. However, her greatest joy was her family.
Jean was preceded in death by her two sons, Richard Cody Young and David Brian Young.
She is survived by her daughters, Debra Lewis (Ellis), Jill Rogers, Ginger Ratcliff (Randy), Alicia Hare (Gary), and like a daughter, Kerri Antley; brothers, Benny Couch (Carolyn), Tommy Couch ( Jenny); grandchildren, Will Collins (Elizabeth), George Rogers, Ashley Toungate (Tyler), Lindsey Ratcliff, Stephen Hare, Richie Hare, Jeremy Hare and seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dr. Coy Gammage and nurses at Oncology Associates for their care of our beloved mother, and Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care for their support to our family in the days preceding Alma Jean’s entry into Heaven.
The family will receive friends for visitation at 2:00 P.M. until service time on Sunday.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
