Funeral services for Alice Jean Hallman Houston, 82, of Farmerville, LA will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 30, 2010 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe with Rev. Warren Eckhardt officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Houston was born in Swartz, LA October 13, 1928 and passed away Monday, December 27, 2010, after a lengthy illness at Arbor Rose Assisted Living in Farmerville, LA, where she resided. Before moving to the Arbor Rose, she and her late husband, Alton Houston, lived in Monroe, LA for over fifty years. She was a charter member of North Monroe Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended until she moved to Farmerville. She was a wonderful mother and a very special grandmother and great grandmother, and was known by all as Nanny.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton O. Houston; mother, Edith Farmer Gawlik; father, Malcom W. Hallman; stepfather, Charles Gawlik; sister, Naomi Hallman Miller; and her brother, Milton C. Hallman.
Survivors include her sons, Glen Houston and wife Peggy of Houston, TX and Paul Houston and wife Sheila of Monroe, LA; daughter, Sheila LaRoe and husband Mike of Bernice, LA; grandchildren, Jason Michael Evans, Sr. and wife Wendy of Shreveport, LA, Samantha Husby of Houston, TX, Alan Houston of Austin, TX, and Holli Brooke Houston of Monroe, LA; great grandchildren, Christina Bowie and husband Michael, Jason Michael Evans, Jr., Selena Evans, Kyle Husby, Ryan Husby, Aydan Husby, Hunter LaRoe, and Avery LaRoe; great great grandchildren, Elizabeth Bowie and Abigale Bowie; special cousin, Georgia Mae Gritzmacher; and numerous special cousins, nieces, and nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be Mike Miller, Wayne Farmer, Gary Crumpton, Kyle O’Neal, Alan Houston, and Kevin Sandifer.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Special thanks to the doctors and staff of Louisiana Hospice in Monroe and her sitters, Charlotte Brown and Crystal Mason, who took such wonderful care of her. Also thanks to the staff and employees of Arbor Rose Assisted Living.
