Mulhearn Funeral Home named April 'Business of the Month' On November 15, 1899, Peter Sherlock Mulhearn married Alwine Louise Peters, daughter of Johann Ernst and Caroline Peters. Peter Mulhearn worked for the railroad until 1912, when he joined his father-in- law in the undertaking and furniture business in Monroe and so the story begins...

In the mid 1930's the Mulhearn Family began their expansion to Rayville, Delhi and Winnsboro with funeral homes, flower shops and an insurance company. The Winnsboro location was established in 1937, and run by one of Peter and Alwine's children, Robert F. "Bobby" Mulhearn and his wife Lucille. Bobby served as Mayor of Winnsboro from 1950 until 1962. He remained active in the community and the funeral home until 2002 when he moved to be with his son in Denham Springs and even then he continued to keep up with what was happening in "his town".

"Bobby's" nephew Joe Mulhearn and his wife Nancy moved to Winnsboro in 1970. Joe was active with the Volunteer Fire Department and helped to get the first rescue unit for Franklin Parish. He also served as coroner from 1976 to 1980 when they moved back to Monroe.

"We are blessed to have wonderful employees in our Winnsboro location. Warren Smith, Leo Thornhill and Joey Smith are our funeral home staff; Arlene Cade, Annette Arnold, Linda Parks and Elaine Thornhill are our flower shop staff. They along with our family members have a strong heritage in this industry and in our communities. We are beginning our sixth generation of family members to join the business and we will continue to striveto serve your family with care and compassion for many generations to come, " said Mulhearn.
